Project Description: Point Nepean Visitors Centre

This project is set on the traditional land of the Boonwurrung at Point Nepean (Boontalang), south east of Melbourne, on theĀ  tip of the Mornington Peninsula facing the bay.

The particular site isĀ amongst 1800s era Quarantine Station buildings, administered by the Point Nepean Community Trust, who are the client group for this project.
The Trust has a mandate to guard the site's natural environment and heritage and to facilitate public access and understanding of the local culture and history of the land.
This history features indigenous, settler, quarantine and military occupation.
The Boonwurrung are, a clan of the greater Kulin nations who are the traditional owners of the land around Melbourne.

The project is a key new building with critical cultural, social and environmental context.


Project Site: 2 level visitor centre. 800m2 site Point Nepean Quarantine Station (BOONTALANG).

Emphasis: concept, composition, structure, materiality, shed typologies, sustainability.

Methods: site visits, building precedents research, models, workshop exercise, details.

Studio: 12 weeks, 2 No 3 hour design sessions per week including site visits.
