GoPlay! Design Proposal
GoPlay! improves the learning, health and wellbeing of children in the developing world through creating and advocating for spaces to play. We design and build great playspaces in schools, and we support and train others to do the same.
We specialise in creating spaces that are very low cost, use sustainable local materials and are easily maintained without specialist staff or tools.
The Problem
Although it is clear that play makes up a large part of a child natural waking activity, it’s importance often goes unrecognized even though we all remember its importance in our childhoods. Schools throughout the world lack both the access to facilities and the funds to prioritise play spaces, but also play times are curtailed because it is often considered too difficult to manage.
The Solution
GoPlay! solves these issues by:
- Educating teachers, educational NGO’s and the broader public that play is essential for a childs education and wellbeing and needs to be a priority in all schools to create healthy children.
- Supplying resources that make play times manageable, safe and educational; and building plans that lower the cost of play facilities by 10-20 times to an affordable price.
- Bringing the volunteer skills of the western world to assist schools in implementing their needs.
Background
GoPlay! began from a simple request of a principal asking for help to build a playground. By may 2010 GoPlay! has designed, built and overseen the construction of 46 playgrounds improving the lives of more than 7000 children.
