Scanning Using Microtek Scanners

Scanning From Microtek Scanner in Photoshop

The Microtek scanner is located in the computer lab 203. It scans documents that are A3 size or smaller. Ensure you remember to collect your document from the scanner bed before leaving the computer.

 

1. Open Adobe Photoshop: On the desktop click Start. Point to All Programs, then point to Graphics Multimedia and then Click Adobe Photoshop CS3.

 

2. From the File menu, point to Import…  and then click Microtek ScanWizard Pro…

 

3. Lift the top off the scanner bed and place the document you are scanning on the glass, and then close the lid.

4. Press the Overview button to see a preview of your document.

 

5. In the preview of your document, move and resize the selection box so that it surrounds the part of the document that you want to scan.

 

6. In the Type drop down box on the left of the preview window, select if you want your output in colour (RGB) or grayscale.

 

7. In the Res drop down box choose your output resolution.

Note: 72dpi is good for screen display and 200dpi is good for print quality.

 

8. If your preview is not correctly orientated, you can select the rotation you require by pressing the F button next to Transform.

 

9. Once you have finished configuring the settings you require for output, press the Scan button.

 

10. Close the ScanWizard Pro Window by clicking the ‘X’ in the top right corner of the its program window.

 

11. Your scanned image will be open in Photoshop and ready for manipulation or to be saved.

 

12. To save your image click, from the File menu, click Save As… This will open the Save As dialog box. In the Save in: field, choose the folder in which you wish to save your file. Enter a name for the file in the File name: field. The format field allows you to choose which format you wish to save the file as. TIFF is lossless but will give you a large file size. JPEG can be used to save a smaller file but at the expense of image quality. Click Save to save the file.
