Scanning From Epson Scanner in Photoshop
The Epson scanner is located in the computer lab 208. It scans documents that are A4 size or smaller. Ensure you remember to collect you document from the scanner bed before leaving the computer.
Basic Scanning
1. Open Adobe Photoshop: On the desktop click Start, point to All Programs, point to Graphics Multimedia, point to Adobe Design Standard CS3, Click Adobe Photoshop CS3.

2. Lift the lid of the scanner and place the document you are scanning on the glass scanner bed, and then close the lid.
3. From the File menu, point to Import… and click Epson Perfection 4990.

4. In the Mode drop down list, choose Professional.

5. Press the Preview button.

6. Select Color picture, Grayscale picture, Black and white picture or text or Custom Settings according to the type of output image you require.

7. Click Adjust the Quality of the Scanned Picture to open the Advanced Properties window.

8. You can adjust the brightness and contrast of the final output by clicking and dragging the Brightness: and Contrast: sliders in the Appearance pane.

9. You can also alter the resolution of the scanned image by entering a value in the Resolution (DPI): field.
Note: 72dpi is good for screen display and 200dpi is good for print quality

10. Once you have chosen your settings, click OK.

11. Click Scan.

12. The document on the scanner bed will be scanned and the EPSON Scan – Epson Perfection 4990 will close. Your scanned image will be open in Photoshop and ready to be manipulated or saved.

13. To save your image click, from the File menu, click Save As… This will open the Save As dialog box. In the Save in: field, choose the folder in which you wish to save your file. Enter a name for the file in the File name: field. The format field allows you to choose which format you wish to save the file as. TIFF is lossless but will give you a large file size. JPEG can be used to save a smaller file but at the expense of image quality. Click Save to save the file.
