Master of Property
The Master of Property is a professional program for graduates wanting to gain employment in the property industry.
The Master of Property within the Melbourne School of Design focuses on real-world projects which range across the full property and development cycle, preparing students for the realities of professional life.
It allows students to develop and build on expertise in valuation, property law and facility management.
There is also the opportunity to take research subjects which may enable students to progress to further studies as a PhD candidate.
The University of Melbourne will launch its new Masters program in Property in 2008. This program is a professionally focused coursework masters degree within the Melbourne School of Design and provides a pathway to an internationally recognized qualification.
The program is designed to build on the Bachelor of Environments in a two- year program or, for those coming from other fields, as a three-year stream (from 2010). Professional experience can be an integral part of the program, a unique practical experience enriching the connection to the related fields of work that may also contribute to professional accreditation requirements.
Expanding the strengths of the Property stream in the previous Property and Construction program, this new program provides advanced content in:
- Property valuation and analysis
- Development and management of property; and
- Professional practice in a property context.
In addition to the core subjects we offer areas of study led by highly qualified and internationally research active staff investigating many areas of global property investment, development and management.
These property related subjects may be enhanced with cross-disciplinary studies from the allied fields in urban design, urban planning, architecture and landscape architecture, creating a great opportunity to locate property specific knowledge in a broader context and therefore programs of study suited to the needs of the individual student.
In the spirit of the Melbourne Model this program is a unique mix of breadth as well as depth in the field of property studies. It provides a distinctive foundation for advanced professional leadership for the graduates that face the social, financial and environmental challenges of the 21st century.
