Project description
This project will explore ways in which the cost of providing transport services (particularly public transport) within a metropolitan area can be linked to a city's productive activity so that income can be raised to meet the cost of operation of services. The heritage of this idea lies in a wide range of work showing how land value is associated with transport investment, and that re-development projects associated with transport locations can meet some of the capital cost of construction. The new edge honed here is that the income flow from the spatial distribution of activity could be an annual one, and it could be proportional to the quality, frequency and scale of the transport service.
