Project Description
This project will identify the ways that logistics systems influence the urban sustainability of future urban transport. By shaping industry location, changes in the use of logistic systems can re-distribute jobs, contribute to changes in the location of the housing of workers and so shape the complexity of urban transport development. In their operation they compete for the use of roads and railways. Yet much thinking on future urban transport involves commuting and personal travel. To address the challenge to promote and sustain an ever-evolving transportation system in a large urban area it is essential to utilize an understanding of current and likely future freight movement. This will provide a foundation to begin to understand how these systems could be managed to cope with higher energy costs.
