Professor Kevin O'Connor
B.Comm. (Hons), M.Comm., Dip.Ed. (Melbourne) Ph.D. (McMaster)
Profile
Kevin O'Connor's teaching and research focuses on the links between the economic system (particularly manufacturing and services) and the growth and internal structure of cities. This includes analysis of the economic role of urban freight transport, public transport and suburban development. Over the past decade this work has had an Asia-Pacific focus, seen in Professor O'Connor's leadership of an international collaborative research group on Service Sector Development in Pacific Asia. A strong focus of his Melbourne research has been on patterns of travel to work, explored initially with Australian Research Council Funds in the 1970s, followed by a number of papers as more data became available, and recently re-interpreted with a major grant from the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute in 2000.
