Getting There
From Melbourne's International Airport (Tullamarine) take the airport shuttle bus to Spencer Street (Southern Cross) terminal in Melbourne. Take the tram from Spencer Street to Swanston Street or a taxi to the University (or take a taxi direct from the airport). Ask for the 'Tin Alley' entrance to the campus, opposite Elgin Street. Ask the driver to drop you outside the Architecture Building. The Old Commerce building is just behind the Architecture building.
If you are coming by interstate train you will get off at the terminus Southern Cross station. Take a taxi to the University or take the tram from Spencer Street to Swanston Street, or suburban train to Melbourne Central.
The best way to reach the GAMUT offices from central Melbourne is to take the tram anywhere in Swanston Street to the University of Melbourne tram stop. The nearest suburban train station is Melbourne Central and there is a tram stop in nearby Swanston Street. You can also easily get to Swanston Street from Flinders Street railway station.
As you step off the tram at the University stop, cross the traffic lane in front of you, and turn to the right. Walk two hundred metres up Swanston Street (in the direction you have been traveling in the tram) until you come to a broad walkway with large trees on your left hand side. Go down this walkway, passing the grey coloured block of the Architecture Building on your right. Turn right behind the Architecture Building around the Post Office corner. The entrance to the Old Commerce Building, a buff coloured brick art-deco style building, is immediately on your left, opposite the PO boxes. You will enter by what is really the back door. The front façade of the Old Commerce building, facing an open square, is that of a neo-classical bank building rescued from demolition
Inside the building, go up the stairs on your right (past a mezzanine floor), and the GAMUT offices are at the top of the stairs on the first main floor.
