News and Events

New road projects are justified to the public by the dollar value of time that would be saved in travel on the main road network if the project were built. John Odgers (RMIT) in a rare study of actual time spent in travel since the construction of the City Link motorways, shows that people are now actually spending more time in travel, and travelling further. This study throws into question the basis of benefit-cost calculations supporting new road investments.

We invite considered responses to the John Odgers paper. Please send responses to dhearn@unimelb.edu.au.
