Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning

Postgraduate Coursework Student Profile

Cara Stokes

What are you studying in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning?

I have just commenced the Master of Property and Construction program and am currently studying Property Law and Practice.

What did you study before commencing your studies at the University of Melbourne, and at which institution?

Prior to commencing this program I completed a Bachelor of Technology (Design) at Monash University.

What interested you in coming to the University of Melbourne? What attracted you to the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning?

When I was considering undertaking further study the most important aspect for me was the ability to study in an area relevant to my employment and course structure that provided an opportunity to study particular areas of property.

With this in mind I was interested in undertaking a course that was solely related to property and provided for very specific areas of learning rather one which offered generic subjects structured toward more towards those without a property background.

This is primarily what attracted me to the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning.

How are you finding your experience at the University so far? What are the highlights?

Commencing study again after quite a considerable break has been easier than I had anticipated. The website is of great assistance in identifying (and locating!) the University's services and facilities.

What are you planning to do when you have completed your studies at Melbourne?

Potentially some further study but it is definitely too soon to tell!

What advice do you have for other students thinking of studying in the Faculty?

There will never be the perfect time to commence further study. When I finally realised this I decided to just make a start (even if it was a small one), so far I have found that juggling study, work and social commitments has been a little easier than I had anticipated.
