Postgraduate Coursework Student Profile
Kiran Naidu
What are you studying in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning?
I am doing a Masters in Property and Construction and my main interest is in the property side of the course. My subjects are: Project Management, Facility Management, Property Valuation, Property Development and Property Investment. I have also taken up a research project and am looking into Corporate Real Estate.
What did you study before commencing your studies at the University of Melbourne, and at which institution?
I have completed my Bachelors degree in Architecture from Bangalore University, India .
What interested you in coming to the University of Melbourne? What attracted you to the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning?
Melbourne University is one the most reputed universities in Australia. The course which was offered had a range of subjects to choose from and the flexibility offered in choosing the subjects which is of interest to me attracted me to The University of Melbourne.
How are you finding your experience at the University so far? What are the highlights?
Initially it was difficult being far from home, but once I got used to the system and met some new people I am enjoying my studies here.
The highlights in the University education system in the faculty are that it concentrates more on the practical aspects of the industry (property, construction, landscape etc) and the lectures are based on a particular market and this practical focus would help ease the transition from university to work. There are a lot of things which we can learn during the classes which are appropriately linked to the actual work practices in real life.
What are you planning to do when you have completed your studies at Melbourne?
I plan to work in a service based industry in the corporate real estate division or project and facility management division.
What advice do you have for other students thinking of studying in the Faculty?
I would say this would be one of the best Universities to study, in Australia and the Architecture faculty is also one of the top in the country. I would like to advise the students who come to study in this faculty to plan and decide what exactly he or she wants to do and give it the best and make the maximum out of the learning process.
