Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning

Postgraduate Coursework Student Profile

Miki Mitsuta

What are you studying in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning?

I am studying the Master of Landscape Architecture. I am currently taking Sustainable Environment Studio. In this we design a residential area in the site. I'm also taking Landscape Practice, where we learn about documentations, laws, some ethical issues in the professional practice. And my last subject is Managing Change. In this class we study about the community consultation in development projects.

What did you study before commencing your studies at the University of Melbourne, and at which institution?

I worked as a developer in Tokyo, Japan and at the same time I studied urban design at the Art and Architecture school of Waseda University.

What interested you in coming to the University of Melbourne? What attracted you to the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning?

I came to Australia to get Masters degree because there are many international relationships among students or lecturer's projects in the university of Melbourne. In the future, I would like to work in Asian countries so that this feature was very attractive for me.

How are you finding your experience at the University so far? What are the highlights?

I have found lecturers here are very enthusiastic to teach or communicate with us. The subjects are very practical and we have many guest lectures from landscape architecture firms or RMIT.

What are you planning to do when you have completed your studies at Melbourne?

I am planning to work in Australia for a while after I graduate from this university. I am joining mentoring program and the organisation introduced me to the mentor who is working in the city council as a landscape architect and I can ask him about the real working situations in Australia. This system is very useful for students who would like to get a job here.

What advice do you have for other students thinking of studying in the Faculty?

You can consolidate your practical knowledge and skills in landscape architecture here and make a wide range connection among people from various countries.
