What are you studying in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning?

I have already finished a postgraduate diploma in landscape architecture and now I am starting the masters in the same field. In the 2 semesters I have studied at Melbourne University I have taken subjects which covered the different areas of landscape architecture: history, theory, practical subjects such as design studios and technical subjects.

 

What did you study before commencing your studies at the University of Melbourne, and at which institution?

I finished a bachelor degree in landscape architecture at Ricardo Palma University in 2000 (Lima, Peru).

 

What interested you in coming to the University of Melbourne? What attracted you to the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning?

I always wanted to continue my studies abroad, in order to be exposed to new concepts and ideas. The Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at Melbourne University offered what I was looking for in terms of education and resources. Additionally, professors and students from all over the world create a really interesting studying environment.

 

How are you finding your experience at the University so far? What are the highlights?

So far this experience has definitely fulfilled all my expectations. The university campus offers a variety of services and facilities, which make your life easier. I am certainly enjoying it.

 

What are you planning to do when you have completed your studies at Melbourne?

Work experience is as important as university. After finishing my degree I have thought of the possibility to work for a period of time in Australia, where landscape architecture has become such an important issue in the last decade. In the future I would like to go back to Peru and continue working in both architecture and landscape architecture.

 

What advice do you have for other students thinking of studying in the Faculty?

Future students will find a friendly environment. They will have to work hard, but at the end they will see the results. The most important thing, enjoy it!
