- Redesign of the Office of Environmental Programs(OEP) done in association with the OEP and the University of Melbourne. An award for this project is being sponsored by the OEP and will be given to the project/s who incorporate as many sustainable features as possible within a small budget, and make the office as comfortable as possible within a small office space.
Studio statement:
Looking at architectural practice that goes beyond efficiency based sustainability by:
- Designing to provide a positive contribution – create energy, collect water, clean the air, provide ecological capital (Birkeland)
- Designing with nature as a partner – biophilic design (Kellert et al)
- Designing to add value at a socio-political scale (Moore)
“…the results of human activity are putting such a strain on the natural functions of Earth that the ability of the planet’s ecosystems to sustain future generations can no longer be taken for granted”. (Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, 2005:2)
2/3 of all essential services provided by nature to us are in decline
We are currently not meeting our own needs without compromising future generation’s ability to meet theirs…
