Crossing Boundaries: Interrogating Identity Politics, Power and Meanings of Built Form in Southeast Asia

This symposium aims to address the gap between critical studies on identity politics in Southeast Asian region and examinations of the dynamic production and use of built form in the region. It also seeks to generate new spaces for cross-cultural and interdisciplinary discussion in this field of research. The symposium brings together early-career researchers/ doctoral candidates from the field of architecture and urban studies and key scholars from the fields of history, politics, anthropology, cultural studies and urban design within the boarder field of Southeast Asian studies.
The symposium is organized by SEAG (Southeast Asian Group), a group of early career researchers and PhD candidates at The University of Melbourne's Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning; it is partially funded by the Asia Pacific Futures Research Network.
