Dean's Welcome
The Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning is a lively community of staff and students whose interest and expertise focuses on the built environment. We established one of the first bachelor degrees in architecture in 1927 and now educate the full range of built environment professionals.
The faculty offers undergraduate, graduate coursework and research programs in the built environment. Our undergraduate focus is in architecture, landscape architecture, property and construction and urban planning. From 2008 these specialisations can be taken through the Bachelor of Environments degree.
From 2008 our Melbourne School of Design will provide professional entry programs, professional development options and research degrees. We would like to position the Melbourne School of Design at the nexus between research, teaching excellence and industry relevance by providing programs which lead to professional qualification and skill enhancement in the built environment fields.
Research is an integral part of the Faculty and is well supported by government and industry research funding, and by excellent equipment and facilities. We offer a range of work and study spaces over three buildings for students and graduate researchers, from shared offices to design studios and communal workspaces such as computer laboratories. The Faculty's library is recognised as housing the best collection of texts on the built environment in Australia. Regular exhibitions including the end of year EYES (Everyone's Year End Show) exhibition and Graduate Architecture exhibition are annual fixtures in our cultural calendar.
I invite you to explore the Faculty website to find out more about our teaching, research activities and events.
